Start with light and dark

A pale blazer over a pale top and dark trousers creates a clear division. The exact colours can vary: cream with navy looks different from light grey with black, while following the same basic idea. The black-and-white photograph draws attention to this distribution of lightness. Try it with garments you own instead of reproducing every shade. A pale top connects with the jacket as a larger area. If you prefer more separation between them, choose a top that is slightly darker than the blazer rather than adding a bright colour.

Change the meeting point at the waist

With the jacket open, you can see where the pale top meets the dark trousers. A tucked hem marks that boundary more clearly. A longer loose version moves the pale area downwards. Try both and look at the entire combination from an ordinary distance. The useful choice depends on the jacket length, top and your preference. A blanket rule that a particular body shape should wear only one version is not especially helpful. Choose the line you can move in and still enjoy after sitting down.

Keep small details within the existing tones

A dark bag can pick up the trousers, while pale shoes can connect with the upper half. You do not need both connections at once. Begin with the shoes that work for your day and choose the bag for the storage you require. Sunglasses can accompany an outdoor journey, but the outfit should not depend on wearing them indoors. If the result feels too strict, first try a softer bag shape or a more relaxed top. The simple light-and-dark idea stays intact while its effect changes without introducing additional colours.
