Connect the greens through lightness
An olive double-breasted coat and a long dark-green skirt do not need to match exactly. The lighter coat and darker skirt keep the two layers distinct. Start with a simple dark top so the greens remain the focus. Black boots and a structured black bag provide a quiet connection. If the overall combination feels too dark, begin by adding only a lighter scarf. Another strong colour is not essential for separating the layers or giving the outfit a distinctive detail of its own.
Watch two long hems in motion
The coat and skirt can both be long as long as you can walk comfortably. Notice which hem moves with your stride first and whether the fabrics catch against each other. A full skirt can gather beneath a narrow coat even when each garment fits separately. Compare the coat open and fastened. Choose according to the actual weather rather than only the version that looks best while standing still. Enough stride room is especially useful on several flights of steps. The skirt should remain clear of the boot soles as you move.
Keep the bag away from the skirt volume
A structured bag can complement the softer layers. Adjust its strap so it does not sit exactly where the skirt moves most while you walk. Carrying it by hand changes the line but occupies a hand, so choose according to your journey and belongings. In cooler conditions, another upper layer may be useful without immediately requiring a different skirt. Try it beneath the fastened coat. If the combination still allows movement, the green colour idea remains usable with a little more warmth and coverage.
